7 Methods to Strengthen Your Immune System Before The Flu and Cold Season

Don't waste time lying in bed due to illness. Find out how you can help your body fight germs.


The immune system is the main mechanism of defense against infectious agents. I'll tell you seven ways to improve it.




A balanced Diet


The cells of the immune system fight microbes when they are regularly nourished. Make sure that your diet includes a sufficient amount of flavonoids, minerals, and other agents. You can also use supplements, as many people do. I personally don't use supplements anymore. I came to the conclusion that it is better to make the effort and find valuable ingredients in natural foods than to swallow tablets, but more on that at the end.



Vegetables, vegetables, vegetables, preferably raw or steamed, so as not to lose valuable nutrients while preparing a meal.



Don't forget the honey. It provides vitamins, microelements, and valuable enzymes that mobilize the immune system to fight.



I will not write too much about vitamin C because you probably know its properties well. Large amounts of vitamin C can be found in blackcurrants, yellow peppers, and parsley.




Smoking


Quit smoking if you do it. Smoking attenuates the normal defensive function of the immune system and can make the body less successful at fighting disease. Of course, quitting smoking is not easy. Stress


Chronic stress reduces the efficiency of the immune system. Stress cannot be avoided, but you can learn to deal with it. Choose your favorite form of relaxation. If you want to reduce stress with visualization, I recommend this post. However, if you like to relax in a different way, then you can use the Ylang-Ylang essential oil that I mentioned in this post





Laugh


Potentiating effect of laughter on the immune system can last as long as 12 hours. Who would have thought that watching a YouTube video to make you laugh could be so useful. Of course, there are many ways to make yourself laugh. Movies are one of the fastest and most convenient solutions. I won't leave you with the advice alone, so I'll tell you a joke.

Physical Activity


Regular moderate activity is considered to promote an anti-inflammatory environment. Combine physical activity with the soothing fresh air. Walk at least 3 times a week. Go to the park and admire nature. You can also stimulate your immune system by walking in cooler evenings.





Aloe Vera


Aloe vera plays a vital role in the immune system. It increases the viability of macrophage cells. You can make juice from aloe vera leaves at home. Be careful to prepare the juice properly as you need to get rid of the poison.




Probiotics


Probiotics are defined as live microorganisms that reach the intestine in sufficient numbers (alive) to have a beneficial effect on health. There are two ways to get more such good bacterias. There are two ways to get more of these good bacteria: fermented foods and dietary supplements.




Probiotics foods:

  • Kefir - stimulates appetite and increases the secretion of digestive enzymes, which improves the digestion of food.

  • Yogurt - always read labels, not all yogurt contains live bacteria.

  • Sauerkraut - pasteurization kills the live bacteria, so choose unpasteurized sauerkraut.






I use 5 of the 7 methods mentioned above. The last time I was in bed due to illness was almost 3 years ago, so I recommend you to use these methods to improve the functioning of your immune system.



  1. I do not control my diet in 100 % so it's hard for me to say if I am supplying my body with sufficient amounts of the right nutrients to improve the functioning of the immune system.

  2. I do not smoke.

  3. I'm great at dealing with stress.

  4. I laugh every day.

  5. I like to walk in the evenings.

  6. I haven't tried aloe vera juice yet.

  7. I often eat probiotic foods.


Additionally, I use one more method. I did not include this method in the list because I could not find any scientific data confirming the effectiveness of this method - I don't take medications.



When you work out in the gym, you will never build a sufficiently large muscle mass if someone helps you lift weights each time. I believe in my immune system and don't want to pamper it. Therefore, even with a severe headache, I do not take pills.
